The world has been swept up by the emergence of generative AI. In the past few months, CBS’s 60 Minutes has featured the technology twice. The rise of chatbots that are able to converse with each other like ChatGPT even led some AI experts to warn of a runaway technology. The current state of generative artificial intelligence is impressive, perhaps even dazzling. However, it may be more advanced than most people realize.
The New York Times reported this week that some tech researchers believe that these systems are moving towards something that can’t be explained as \”a stochastic parrot,\” a system which mimics the dataset it is based on. Microsoft’s ChatGPT is showing \”an AI system that has humanlike ideas and answers that were not programmed in it.\”
