Vitamin B3 is a therapeutic vitamin for progressive muscle disease

Vitamin B3 boosts energy metabolism and muscle health

A team of international scientists led by the University of Helsinki has reported that vitamin B3, or niacin is therapeutic in cases of progressive muscle disease. Niacin slowed the progression of mitochondrial myopathy in patients who had no prior curative treatment.

Recently, rodents have been shown to be able to boost their energy metabolism by consuming vitamin B3 forms. These vitamins are precursors to NAD+ which is a molecular switch that switches metabolism between growth and fasting modes.

In light of the fact that fasting promotes health and longevity, for example in mice, \”NAD boosters\”, are currently being developed. NAD+ is a deficiency that can be found in many diseases. However, it has not been proven whether NAD+ boosts have a curative effect on patients with degenerative disease.
